Windsong Radiology Group and Pervasive Solutions Protect Patient Health Information
Posted on Jul 2, 2007 Upstate NY – July 2, 2007 – Buffalo’s Windsong Radiology Group has teamed with Rochester-based Pervasive Solutions, LLC to implement their Secure Email service. Windsong’s outgoing emails will now pass through Pervasive Solutions’ encryption servers where they will be scanned and automatically encrypted if they are found to contain Protected Health Information (PHI).
This solution utilizes technology endorsed by the American Hospital Association (AHA) and helps Windsong comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). By passing each email through a lexicon of medical terms, the system can quickly and automatically identify those emails that contain information of a private nature. All such emails are immediately encrypted before they leave the security of Windsong’s network. This system will make it possible for Windsong to increase their use of email for communicating with patients, insurance carriers and other health care professionals.

The automatic nature of the encryption service was a deciding factor for Windsong. The Secure Email service is a managed solution provided by Pervasive Solutions to clients nationally. The service ensures that private emails are encrypted and only accessible by the designated recipient.
